Step 1: Science

Step 2: Technology
As part of our Science programme this year we have continued with our 'Science Experiment of the Fortnight' in all classes.  The children have fun learning about scientific concepts in a fun and interactive way.  Science Week 2018 was marked by extra experiments and design and build projects in every class.
Check out some of the photos below showing some of the activities and experiments the children of Naiscoil Ide engaged with this year, including a very hands-on and exciting visit by a Nurse to Room 4.

Living Things

As part of investigating and experimenting with living things, one First Class followed the life-cycle of the butterfly very closely with their very own caterpillars. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching their caterpillars develop and grow into beautiful butterflies.

Energy and Forces

All the classes had great fun investigating the effects of Static Electricity on paper, hair, and Rice Crispies.

Materials

The Smarties experiment was one of the more spectacular experiments introduced this year, and never failed to produce the wow factor.
The children also investigated what happens to the Smarties when different temperatures of water are used...

Environmental Awareness and Care

One Junior Infant class designed and created their very own Windsocks. They brought them out to the yard to investigate how they would work on a windy day and were delighted and very proud with their results...
All classes planted Spring bulbs and green manure in the garden to act as a natural fertiliser in our school garden.

We are also very proud to have been awarded our 7th Green Flag this year.  This was awarded for the children's work on saving energy and raising a greater awareness of the impact of wasting energy on r environment.

A Visit From A Nurse

The Junior Infants were delighted with a visit from the Nurse who not only showed them all the internal organs in her very special bear, but showed how to bandage sore limbs and to measure out the correct amount of medicine using a syringe.. the correct amount had to measured accurately so that the teddies didn't get sick!
