"We like to move, move it!"
Our Active School Slogan
The pupils and staff of Naíscoil Íde are working together in order to become an Active School. Please take a look below at some of the activities we have been taking part in as we strive to become an Active School.
Our Active School Activities
Active Lines
We promote active lines when the bell goes after each break. Each day has a different movement that the children have to do in their lines. The best line is then awarded with a triangle. They then colour this on their record chart in the classroom. When a certain amount of triangles are won, the children are awarded extra active time.
Active Yard Stations
The school yard is a hive of activity everyday with children playing games and having fun with their friends. We have also set up some active stations in the yard to help inspire some of the children to learn new skills and become more active while on their break. Some of these active stations include skipping, hobby horses etc.
Active Walkway
Our Active Walkway has been set up in the First Class yard. This provides the children with a space to 'do their talking as their walking' and also lays out an area in which the children can complete running initiatives set up in the school.
Active Leaders
Since November, students from First Class who are involved on the Active School Committee have taken on the role as active leaders in the First Class yard. The leaders help set up the active station in the yard and help monitor the station. They also take a leading role during Active Lines, showing the children what movement it is and leading by example.
Running Initiatives
We have oragnised two different running initiatives in the school so far. We focused on different areas in the local community for our first initiative and the history of the local area for the second. This year in our 'Run Back in Time' initiative, the children are given information about the history of the location when they reach that destination. Every lap of the yard is one circle on the record sheet which is kept in each classroom. The children can also record their progress on the running initiative noticeboard which is centrally located in the school.
