JUNIOR INFANT INFORMATION MEETING 26/09/2019

Attendance:
Parents should provide a note stating the reason for each absence. Tusla (Child and Family Agency) will be automatically notified after 20 days absence

 Homework:
Monday – Thursday
10 minutes approximately each evening.
Emphasis on oral language – chatting with your child, reading stories, reciting nursery rhymes.
Fine Motor Skills Activities
Sound booklet each evening (starting After Mid-Term)

 Helping at home with English:
Oral Language_

Encourage the use of full sentences
Prepare news for class discussions

 Writing: help your child’s tripod grip with:

Building blocks
Squeezing clothes pegs

 Cursive Style Handwriting
New “Go with the Flow” handwriting programme
Adheres to the principles of the new Primary Language Curriculum
Emphasis in Junior Infants on developing fine motor skills
Later in year, letters will be introduced according to their frequency of occurrence
Lower case _ e, t, a, o, I, n, s, h
Upper case –I, T, W, S
 
Helping at home with Maths
Matching activities- e.g. setting the table (one knife, one fork)
Touch and count activities (1-10)
Identify shapes/ colours/ numbers and patterns in the environment
 
Code of Behaviour – Traffic Light System
Green
We all start off in Green each day.
Verbal warning.
Orange
5 minutes “thinking time” sitting by themselves.
Red
Loss of privileges e.g. Messenger role/ Captain role. Parents informed
 
Yard
In the interests of health and safety children cannon under any circumstances be left unattended before 9am
 
Healthy eating
We would like to encourage a healthy eating policy in the school. Please remember
  • Fruit break – only 3 minutes eating time! Please ensure your child’s fruit/veg is peeled, chopped or sliced where appropriate e.g. half an apple or a small orange.
  • Small lunches – only 10 minutes eating time. Please ensure your child does not have a huge lunch, as they will struggle to finish it.
  • Something that your child can manage very easily – practise at home.
  • Please refrain from sending lunches into school containing nuts.
  • Uneaten lunch as well as wrappers will be sent home in lunch boxes

Requests to Parents
  • Please ensure that all of your child’s clothing is clearly labelled.
  • Practise independent skills at home e.g. putting on and off coats/jumpers/cardigans, opening and closing schoolbags/lunch boxes etc.
  • Please ensure that your child’s schoolbag can comfortably fit all of their belongings including an A4 homework folder and a lunch box.
  • do not send in treats/ cakes for sharing - this is not possible due to allergies
 
Garda Vetting
Garda Vetting is now required foe helping with school activities e.g. Maths for Fun. Contact the school principal, Mrs Ring for application forms and requirements
