End of Year Fun 💛

What a fantastic month June has been! We have packed so much fun into our final few weeks together. The children planted sunflower seeds and enjoyed watching them grow before bringing them home. We celebrated a special 'Baby Day', where we reflected on what we were like as babies, shared baby photos, and had great fun guessing who was who. On 'Prince and Princess Day', everyone designed their own beautiful crowns and spent the day feeling like royalty. We enjoyed a 'Secret Kindness Day', where each child made a thoughtful card for a classmate, spreading smiles and kindness throughout the classroom. Our Teddy Bears' Picnic was another highlight, along with a wonderful class talent show where the children amazed everyone with funny sketches, dancing, and lots of confidence. We also had a virtual school trip to Disneyland! The children made their own Disneyland tickets before heading off on a magical adventure. They loved pretending to strap themselves into the rollercoasters and enjoyed all the excitement of a day at Disney from our classroom! Lastly, we had a very special surprise when our class dog, Cody, came to visit the children at the yard gate! It has been a month to remember and the perfect ending to a truly special year in Room 9 ❤️

Mini Beast Hunt 🐝🐞🐌🔍

The children in Room 9 engaged in inquiry-based learning by exploring the question, 'What mini-beasts live in our school?' . They made predictions about which creatures they might find and then set out to discover the answers for themselves. Using the school gardens as their outdoor classroom, they carefully searched for mini-beasts, observing and recording what they found.

Our Class Butterflies 🐛🦋

The children recently enjoyed an exciting learning experience as they raised caterpillars and watched them transform into beautiful butterflies. They carefully observed each stage of the life cycle, from tiny caterpillars to chrysalises and finally emerging butterflies. Cody and Maddie even minded them while school was closed! The children were then delighted to release the butterflies into the outdoors, they didn't want to leave us!

School Tour! 🤸‍♀️

The children had a fantastic day on their school tour to ​The Sport Ireland Campus.

Active School Week in Room 9! ⚽️🥇

The children had such a fun, busy, active week this week as they spent each day outside in the sunshine engaging in yoga, novelty races, bouncy castles, GAA with Garry, dancing and soccer with Raheny United! 

Active Learning in Maths ➕🔢➖

We have been engaging in lots of active maths, exploring key number concepts through hands-on, playful activities. The children have built exciting addition and subtraction 'tower cities', practised skip counting to help a kangaroo find its way home, and used real coins in our classroom shop to decide if they had enough money to buy their chosen items. We have also been using dice, counting bears and a variety of concrete materials to support our learning, and measuring and weighing objects to develop early mathematical understanding. The children even followed pathway trails to practise addition in a fun, active way.  Room 9 definitely knows how to learn through play!

We had a lovely time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in our classroom. The children had great fun during a whole school céilí dance of 'Shoe the Donkey' outside and did a fantastic job performing the poem An Leipreachán'  in front of the whole school! 👏🏼

St. Patrick's Day Fun!💚

Preparations were in full swing in Room 9 for St. Patrick's Day. Along with pots of gold art, the children engaged in a St. Patrick's Day inspired S.T.E.M challenge. In pairs, the children were given the task to build rainbows using pipe cleaners and playdough, that were strong enough to hold 5 gold coins. They were all very successful !🌈

World Book Day ✨📚

We had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day in our classroom. The day began with a 'Book Tasting', where the children had the chance to explore and enjoy a range of different books. They each shared their favourite story with the class, which was a great opportunity to practice speaking and listening. We were also delighted to welcome 5th class girls from Scoil Áine, who visited to read a selection of stories to the children. To finish the day, the class took part in a friendly Kahoot quiz, testing their knowledge of well-known children’s books and authors!

We had a fantastic time exploring lots of fun, hands on experiments for Science Week. The children created rainbow patterns with Skittles in warm water, watched coloured water travel up celery stalks, launched balloon rockets along a string, and explored static electricity by using balloons to move a can!

Hallowe'en 

Maths Week

The children created their own 'Shapensteins' using their knowledge of shapes, participated in a Maths Treasure Hunt for PE, engaged in maths stations each morning, and used plenty of maths talk when discussing where they might use maths in their daily lives. ​

Friendship Week Fun!

This week, we celebrated Friendship Week with lots of kindness and creativity. Each child was given a 'secret friend' at the start of the week, and their mission was to be especially kind and thoughtful towards them, without revealing their identity!
Throughout the week, the children discussed what it means to be a good friend and how small acts of kindness can make a huge difference. They each created a special card and a handmade friendship bracelet for their secret friend, which they gifted during the big reveal at the end of the week.
