Step 4: Maths

Step 5: Show and Tell

Our journey towards a STEM award has been a very positive experience for our school.  The children are always very excited and interested at the introduction of each new challenge and experiment.  They are always delighted with their achievements and discoveries, and are eager to show their peers in school, and their siblings at home what they have learned and/or discovered!  We believe that our involvement in the STEM programme has helped to foster a love of the STEM subjects and has encouraged the development of inquiry-based learning in our young pupils.

As part of our STEM programme, classes shared their ideas.  The older children were always keen to demonstrate their knowledge and findings to the younger classes.  The photos below show a Junior Infant class showing their tallest and strongest creations to a Senior Infant class. The Junior Infants were very proud to show off their work!
Not only were the Senior Infant children delighted to visit another room to view their creations.  The Senior Infants were also very proud to explain and demonstrate to the Junior Infants how they had created their tallest and strongest structures using triangular shapes.
