Welcome Back Newsletter 8/9/17
On behalf of all the staff and Board of Management I would like to extend a warm welcome back as we re-open our doors to parents and pupils. A special warm welcome to our new Junior Infants who are settling well into school and will start into their full day on Friday 15th. We are looking forward to a year of great promise as we strive to help each child reach their full potential. We feel privileged that you have entrusted us with your child’s education. A special welcome to Ms. O'Riordan and Ms. Ennis who have joined us as members of staff. Please check our school website www.naiscoilide.ie for updates, information and photographs.
Rest assured we have been busy as usual during the holidays. Graeme has painted a number of classrooms, we have replaced all the floor matting in the building and we made a number of changes to room usage, staff room and resource rooms. We are delighted to announce we have received funding from the department to completely renovate our first class yard. This work will commence as soon as possible. We are cognisiant of, and apologise for, the yard as it presents presently but hope you can remain patient as we improve facilities in a manner that causes the least inconvenience as possible.
We appreciate your cooperation with the arrangements for assembly and dismissal. We ask that you do not delay the teachers as they bring the classes in from the yard in the morning time. You are welcome to make an appointment to speak to the class teacher. Please phone the office to arrange a mutually convenient time.
We are all full of good intentions for the new school year and we hope you will put time-keeping and attendance at the top of your list. Since the implementation of the Education Welfare Act schools are obliged to report absences of 20 days or more. Please let the school know in writing if your child is absent and why.
Thank you to all who have paid Section B of our book list which covers photocopying, art and craft materials, curriculum resources, computer consumables, stationery and book rental. These charges are necessary for the continued successful running of the school and are entirely spent on providing classroom requisites and resources. There are still some expenses outstanding and we would appreciate payment as soon as possible. If the timing of this payment does not suit, please contact the Principal to make alternative arrangements.
We wish to promote our Healthy Eating Policy and we hope to encourage parents to provide their children with healthy foods, snacks and drinks. Please see our policy on the school website. In order to cut down on rubbish disposal and in order to let you know how much is necessary for your child’s lunch, all children will take home their uneaten lunch and wrappers every day in their lunchboxes for recycling. Your co-operation is appreciated in this area. A number of children in the school are allergic to nuts and we request that parents avoid sending nuts or food containing nuts into the school.
We ask that all children keep a small face cloth in their bags which they will use for drying their hands after they have been to the toilet. Please ensure these cloths are washed on a regular basis. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
To ensure the safety of your child, Allianz Insurance has recommended that we make you aware of the following. The official opening time of the school is 9.00. No responsibility is accepted for pupils arriving before this time. Please do not leave children unattended in the yard before this time as they would be unsupervised. Pupils who arrive at the school before 9 o’clock must be supervised by parents or guardians. At 9 o’clock and again at 1.40 it is very important that parent remain back from the exit doors to ensure pupils can safely enter and leave the school. For safety purposes please emphasise to your child that she/he must wait with the teacher until collected by parent/minder.
Junior Infant photographs will be taken on Thursday 28th September. The company taking the photographs, Michael Edwards School Photography, have informed us that only those children who have returned their forms will have their photographs taken. Please wear school uniform and NOT tracksuit on Thursday 28th.
